Stephen F. Austin senior pole vaulter Adam Keul is headed back to Fayetteville, Arkansas this weekend to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships for the second straight year. Last year, Keul finished the regular competition tied for the pole vault championship, only to lose a jump-off and finish second in the event.
The preseason favorite to claim the indoor title, Keul enters this year's competition having cleared 17-8 during the 2002 indoor track season with the 'Jacks. He recently finished the 2002 SLC Indoor Championships as the Co-Champion in the pole vault with a leap of 17-4.50. He also won the Southwest Classic Indoor Meet earlier this season in Houston.
The two-time All-American also holds the Southland Conferece and SFA records in the pole vault both indoors and outdoors. Keul's indoor record of 18-7.50 was set last season at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
"I really believe that Adam has the ability to go up there and clear 18-4, 18-5 and win the event. Even though he hasn't jumped quite as well throughout the season as he did last year, he still has the ability to get the job done," said SFA track coach Phil Olson.
Keul will compete Saturday at Randal Tyson Track Facility on the University of Arkansas campus.
