Barnum Earns All-American Honors

Greg Barnum, a senior from Killeen, has been named to the Associated Press I-AA All-American team as an offensive lineman. Rated one of the best centers in the nation, Barnum earned the honor after moving back to the offensive side of the ball prior to the start of the 2002 season.
The 6-1, 302 pound center was one of seven Southland Conference players to earn a spot on one of the teams. Barnum was a third team selection after helping the Lumberjacks to a 6-5 record in 2002 and leading the SLC in passing offense. Barnum's move back to the offensive line showed immediate dividends as SFA saw its sacks allowed total decrease from 38 in 2001 to only 12 sacks allowed in 2002.
The rushing offense also improved tremendously as SFA went from averaging 92.0 yards per game on the ground in 2001, to just over 160 yards per game in 2002. Freshman running back Tony Tompkins also earned SLC Freshman of the Year honors running behind Barnum and the rest of the offensive front.
