The Lumberjack basketball team will open the 2002-03 season, Thursday, November 14 with an exhibition game against a travelling team from Ukraine.
The 'Jacks wrapped up the 2001-02 season with an overall mark of 13-15 and an appearance in the Southland Conference post season basketball tournament. SFA went 10-10 in the SLC last season and was a number five seed in the tournament, bowing out to Lamar in the first round.
Danny Kaspar and the 'Jacks return three starters from last year's team including leading scorer Percy Green. Green earned preseason first team All-Southland Conference honors earlier this month in a vote of conference head coaches. Joining Green as returning starters are last year's Freshman of the Year in the SLC, Stevin Ozier and senior guard Ben Hunt.
SFA has added a host of new faces to the mix for 02-03 and hope that the new additions provide the offensive punch to push the 'Jacks to the next level and a better finish in the conference race. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will host first round tournament playoff games the first week of March.
Admission to Thursday's exhibition game is free. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. The 'Jacks play another exhibition game on the 19th of November against Athletes First before opening the regular season, November 23, at the University of Texas.
