
Ladyjacks Fall in Semifinals

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team lost its bid to get back to the Southland Conference Championship match Saturday afternoon, falling to Lamar, 3-1 (30-28, 30-26, 27-30, 22-30). SFA finishes the season with a 22-12 (.647) overall record.
The Ladyjacks fell behind, 2-0, early as Lamar dominated the game offensively. The Cardinals recorded a .291 attack percentage led by Natalie Sarver's 24 kills and 11 digs. SFA responded in game three with a 30-27 win. Senior Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) recorded 19 kills and 12 digs in her final match to lead SFA. Senior Jennifer Wilson added 15 kills and six blocks but it wasn't enough as SFA fell 30-22 in the fourth game.
Sophomore Deborah Kirkham added 10 kills, 15 digs and three blocks in the losing effort. Senior Sunni Williams (Houston, Texas) finished off the night with 56 assists, eight digs and three service aces.
Texas-Arlington defeated McNeese State, 3-0, in the other semifinal match. The Mavericks will face Lamar Sunday at 4 p.m., for the Southland Conference Tournament Championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
