NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team signed Lauren Adams (Katy, Texas), Laura Cramer (Abilene, Texas) and Stephanie Figgers (Katy, Texas) to National Letters of Intent announced SFA head volleyball coach Debbie Humphreys Wednesday afternoon.
A three-time team captain, Adams was named to the 2000 and 2001 all-district teams. She was also named to the Pearland and Kingwood all-tournament teams, as well as MVP of the Third Coast Tournament. Adams is a multi-sport athlete that received all-district accolades in basketball as well. A solid student-athlete, Adams was named to the Academic All-District teams in both basketball and volleyball.
"We are very excited to have Lauren as a member of our program," added SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "She brings a wealth of volleyball experience and she has been competing at a very high level. The setting position is very natural to her, and she has experience running a variety of play sets. She will catch on very quickly to our system."
Cramer comes to Nacogdoches by way of Abilene Cooper High School where she was named two-time District 4-5A Most Valuable Hitter. Cramer was named to the all-district second team as a sophomore. Another Ladyjack signee that enjoyed success in multiple sports, Cramer played soccer and earned all-state honors in track.
"You can see from Laura's accomplishments in track that she is a phenomenal athlete," said Humphreys. "She knows how to use that athleticism on the volleyball court as well. She doesn't have the same level of volleyball experience as our other signees, but she is a very solid player who will improve dramatically throughout her first year of college."
Figgers is a team co-captain that earned first-team all-district honors as a sophomore and junior. She has also been named Allen Samuels Dodge Athlete of the Week. Figgers also has aspirations of playing for the SFA softball team. She was a first-team All-Greater Houston, all-state and all-district selection on the diamond. Figgers also enjoys success in the classroom earning the KISD Student-Athlete Academic Team award every year. She was also a nominee for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award.
"Stephanie is a fiery player that has all the intangibles that you want in a player," said Humphreys. "She is a true difference maker with her tenacious defense and never say die attitude. Stephanie is the best libero I've seen and we are excited that she will be wearing purple and white next season. Stephanie also plans on joining the Ladyjack softball program in the spring. She plays both sports at a very high level."
