LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team rolled into Lake Charles, La., Friday evening and defeated the hometown Cowgirls, 3-2 (30-28, 19-30, 30-18, 26-30, 18-16). The Ladyjacks are now 17-9 overall and 11-4 in the Southland Conference.
Despite being out-hit by McNeese State, the Ladyjacks were able to pull out the victory. Senior Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) set the tone for SFA with her team-high 21 kills. Classmate Jennifer Wilson (Friendswood, Texas) was the only other Ladyjack to record double-figure kills, but is was more enough to push SFA ahead of the Cowgirls in the SLC race.
The Cowgirls were led by Marquita Williams and Angela Eppers who recorded 24 and 22 kills respectively, but the Cowgirls were hurt by errors. McNeese State recorded 17 service aces and 12 receptions errors in the loss.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday when they travel to Beaumont, Texas, to take on Lamar. The match against the Cardinals is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the Montagne Center.
