SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team lost to defending Southland Conference Champion, Southwest Texas, 1-0, Sunday afternoon. The Ladyjacks are 5-7-0 (.417) overall and 2-2-0 (.500) in the SLC.
The Ladyjacks were involved in another low-scoring, defensive struggle against the Southwest Texas. The game's lone goal came in the 14th minute when the Bobcats Sara Wiebe scored off a corner kick from teammate Kendra Comfort. Freshman goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki (Calgary, Alberta) had another strong match for SFA, recording seven saves and not allowing the Bobcats another goal. But the Ladyjack offense struggled throughout the game, being outshot, 17-8, getting only one shot on goal.
"This was not a bad loss," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "We knew it was going to be a fight today. We didn't clear a corner kick that we should have and we were not able to finish on some opportunities that we had. The girls played hard today."
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they travel to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern Louisiana. The game against the Lady Lions is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
