ARLINGTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team was shutout for the first time this season Friday night by Texas-Arlington. The Mavericks beat SFA, 3-0 (30-25, 30-24, 30-25). SFA is now 10-8 overall and 4-3 in the Southland Conference.
The Ladyjacks offense never got into a rhythm Friday, recording only a .134 attack percentage. Sophomore Joanna Benestante (Houston, Texas) had a big night for SFA leading the team with 12 kills and hitting .414 for the night. But she received very little help offensively, as the Ladyjacks dropped the first game, 30-25. Senior Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) chimed in with 10 kills but also recorded nine errors in the loss.
The Mavericks' attack was too much for SFA as they recorded a .317 attack percentage. UTA was led by Olaya Pazo and Melissa Robinett's 11 kills, each. Both players hit over .500 for the match.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday Oct. 11 when they host Nicholls State. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
