
Tompkins Earns Fourth Player of the Week Honor

PLANO, Texas -- Southland Conference sports information directors have voted Tony Tompkins of Stephen F. Austin the offensive football player of the week in the league after his 171-yard rushing day in a win over Jacksonville State. The Player of the Week award is Tompkins' fourth such honor of the year. Meanwhile, JSU's Markee Coleman was named defensive player of the week and John Marino of McNeese State has been tabbed special teams top performer.
Offense Tony Tompkins, Stephen F. Austin, RB, 5-8, 165, Fr., Pt. Arthur, Texas Tompkins averaged 11.4 yards per carry on a 15 carry, 171-yard effort in the 'Jacks 36-28 win over Jacksonville State Saturday. Tompkins scored on runs of 61 and 39 yards in the first half. He also added one reception for one yard on the afternoon.
Defense Markee Coleman, Jacksonville State, DB, 5-11, 192, Sr., Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Markee posted a career day on defense with two interceptions and a blocked kick that he returned 65 yards for a Gamecock touchdown to pull JSU to within 23-17 early in the third quarter. He returned the two interceptions 13 yards in the loss to Stephen F. Austin. He also had a season-high four pass break-ups.
Special Teams John Marino, McNeese State, PK, 5-9, 198, So., Covington, La. Marino booted a career-long 47-yard field goal and also made five straight point-after kicks that extended his consecutive streak to 26 in a row. He booted two kickoffs into the end zone during McNeese State?s 47-10 win at Sam Houston State. He also squibbed his kickoffs in the second half when Sam Houston returned five for an average of 15 yards.
