NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team made quick work of Northwestern State, 3-0 (31-29, 30-16, 30-17), Friday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are now 15-9 overall and 9-4 in the Southland Conference.
Northwestern State was tough in game one hanging with SFA. The Demons took a one-point lead at 28-27 behind Christina Stone's 12 kills but the Ladyjacks fought right back to gain the advantage and win the game, 31-29. Senior Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) led SFA with her 18 kills. SFA rolled to a 30-16 victory in game two behind sophomore Brittany Burton's (Livingston, Texas) 14 kills and six blocks. Burton finished the game with a .522 attack percentage. The Ladyjacks picked up the shutout with a 30-17 victory in game three. Senior Jennifer Wilson (Friendswood, Texas) recorded 13 kills. Senior Sunni Williams (Houston, Texas) led all players with her 47 assists. Sophomore Deborah Kirkham (Houston, Texas) had a team-high 15 digs.
"We haven't played a lot of three-game matches this season, so this one felt good," said SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "We are playing more consistently. I think we are in the process of doing what we set out to accomplish and that is play at a higher level and get better every time we take the court. We want to be playing our best ball at this time of the year."
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday to take on Louisiana-Monroe. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
