SFA Track & Field Begins 2002 Season in Houston

The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams will kick off the 2002 season Saturday at the Houston Indoor Classic, in Houston, Texas. The Houston Indoor Classic is a scored event that will consist of 15 teams, including Baylor, meet-host Houston, Louisiana Tech, Northwestern State, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Southern, South Alabama, Texas, Texas Christian, Texas Southern, Texas-Arlington, Texas-Pan American and Texas-San Antonio. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., from the Athletics and Alumni Center Fieldhouse. SFA will be traveling 23 athletes on the women's side and 17 on the men's side.
By the Numbers The Ladyjacks return 22 athletes for the 2002 season. Among the 22, SFA welcomes back eight all-conference athletes and All-American pole vaulter, Misty Ballard-Swan. The Lumberjacks return 21 athletes for the upcoming season, including 10 All-Southland Conference performers and two-time All-American pole vaulter, Adam Keul.
Fresh Faces Both SFA squads will have a new look to the team in 2002 as the Ladyjack roster sports 10 freshmen and the Lumberjack roster will showcase 12 newcomers. The Ladyjack freshmen are Amanda Alexander, Shametra Boykins, Lindsay Bryson, Anne Henderson, Kristin Holland, Emily Hufstedler, Teresa Murray, Jessica Partin, Lindsay Russell, Jocelyn Stevens and Melody Tillman. The Lumberjack freshmen Andy Cope, Zeke Dixon, Andre Ford, Chris Gage, Matt Hoelscher, Jonathan James, Alex Johnson, Scott Reid, Haile Teklai, Bryan Waugh, Brandon Williams and Darryl Williams.
Up Next... The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team will be in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday, Jan. 26, to compete in the LSU Purple Tiger.
