
Lumberjack Basketball Schedule Released

Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack head basketball coach Danny Kaspar has released the Lumberjack basketball schedule for the 2001-2002 basketball season. The schedule features eight non-conference games for the `Jacks, as well as, 20 Southland Conference games beginning with the conference opener against Southwest Texas, December 1.
The `Jacks will open the regular season on the road as they travel to Tempe, Arizona to take on Arizona State, November 17. SFA follows that with another road game on the 21st of November against Jackson State before returning home for their home opener against Texas Lutheran on November 24. SFA closes out the month as they play host to Rice University on November 27, in a 7:00 p.m. tip.
Southland Conference play begins early for the Lumberjacks as things kick-off with the Bobcats of Southwest Texas, December 1, followed by two more non-conference match-ups. SFA travels to Centenary on December 5, and plays host to Texas Southern University on Saturday, December 8.
SFA takes their first conference road trip in mid-December as the team travels to Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State for a key early season trip. The `Jacks then venture to Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 29 for their final non-conference game of the year against Oral Roberts.
The team then begins a streak of seventeen straight SLC games on January 3, as it travels to Northwestern State. The regular season concludes March 2, in Lake Charles, with defending Southland Conference regular season champion McNeese State University.
The top eight teams in SLC play will advance to the Southland Conference post season tournament this season, with the top four teams hosting first round games. The winners of those games will meet at the site of the highest remaining seeds in the semifinals, with the highest remaining seed hosting the championship game on Saturday, March 9.
Danny Kaspar and the Lumberjacks will also host a pair of exhibition games set for Wednesday, November 7 and Sunday, November 11.
