Stephen F. Austin pole vaulter Tom Swan, a senior from Ovilla, Texas, has been named to the Verizon Academic All-American Second Team. Swan becomes the first Lumberjack track athlete to earn the national honor. Earlier this spring, he was named a First Team District Six Academic All-American.
Swan placed second in the pole vault at the Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2000, and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships last year. He turned in the fourth best mark in the outdoor season among Southland Conference vaulters this past spring, clearing a height of 16-4.75.
An aviation major, Swan has a perfect 4.0 grade point average at the university.
