Lumberjack Athletes Honored At Annual Awards Banquet

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Twenty-eight Stephen F. Austin senior athletes were honored tonight in the Grand Ballroom of the SFA University Center at the annual Lumberjack Awards Banquet.
Atlanta, Texas senior Derrick Blaylock was presented with the Ralph Todd Award as the Outstanding Male Athlete at the university for 2001. Blaylock, a senior running back on last season's Lumberjack football team, rushed for the second highest single season rushing total ever in SFA history in 2000. The fifth-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs rushed for 1,382 yards last season, scoring eight rushing touchdowns.
The R.H. "Bob" Shelton Award was presented to former Lumberjack quarterback Travis Fallon. The Shelton Award is presented annually to a Lumberjack senior that best exhibits the traits of outstanding character, academic achievement and athletic excellence. Fallon started games in four seasons for the Lumberjacks, leading the `Jacks to a 4-0 record in games he started his senior year. Fallon helped lead the Lumberjacks to their first ever win over a Division I-A opponent in September, 2000, with their overtime win over Louisiana Tech.
Lumberjack basketball's Henry Howard picked up the 2001 Dick Wright Award to the banquet. The Dick Wright Award is presented to a Lumberjack athlete that best exemplifies the traits of the late Dick Wright in his desire, determination and dedication to his sport. Howard, a senior from Waco, spent the past four seasons as a member of the Lumberjack basketball squad. During that four year period, the former walk-on player tied both the SFA and Southland Conference record for three pointers in a game with nine three's against the University of Texas -Arlington during the 1999-2000 season.
Seniors from each sport were also recognized during the evening, with each sport also recognizing it's respective MVP's.
