Stephen F. Austin head basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced today the signing of Timothy Simon to a national letter of intent to play basketball and further his education at SFA, beginning next fall.
Simon is a 6-0, 180 pound point guard from Houston's Klein Forest High School. He was a three year letterwinner for coach Larry Pitre, while averaging 18.5 points , 4.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game throughout his high school career. Simon also added just under three steals per game as a prep star.
"Tim Simon is an excellent sign for us. He's quick and strong and can play both as a point guard and as a shooting guard," said Kaspar. "I really like his character and competitiveness. He'll be a great player for us over the next four years."
Simon was an All-District and All-City selection as both a junior and senior. This past season, Simon earned the District 15-5A Defensive Player of the Year Award, and was also named a Texas Basketball Magazine All-State selection. Simon was also a McDonald's All-American nominee as a senior. He set the Klein Forest single game scoring record this past year with 44-points in a game, and was ranked among the top 35 prospects in the state this past season according to Mike Kunstadt's Texas Hoops.
The new Lumberjack recruit led his team to the state finals as a junior and helped the Golden Eagles to the regional quarterfinals as a senior.
Kaspar and his staff expect to sign three additional recruits later this week.
