The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks inched a step closer to another berth in the NCAA tournament Thursday night, with an impressive 49-32 win over the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners in semi-final action of the Southland Conference CenturyTel Classic, at the CenturyTel Center, in Bossier City.
G Jessica Guild was the only player to break into double digits in scoring, with a game high 13 points for SFA. Guild was 5 of 8 from the field, and 3 of 4 at the free throw line for the night.
Scoring was a problem for both teams as two of the top five defenses in the nation matched-up in the contest. SFA's defense proved to be a little better Thursday night, limiting the Roadrunners to only 32 points, the lowest point total by a Ladyjack opponent since Nicholls State was held to only 31 points during the 1995-96 season. UTSA shot only 19.2% from the field, and was only 1 of 13 from beyond the three point stripe (07.7%).
SFA also outrebounded the Roadrunners 44-37.
The Ladyjacks now move to Saturday's finals at 3:00 p.m. against the Demons of Northwestern State. The game will be carried live on FOX Sports Southwest.
SFA and Northwestern State split the season series, with each team winning on its home floor.
