The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to UT-San Antonio Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three game Southland Conference series between the two teams. SFA and UT-San Antonio split Saturday's doubleheader, with UT-San Antonio winning the first game by a 4-2 count, and SFA taking the nightcap, 1-0.
Sunday afternoon's final game was much like the second game of the series with neither team scoring until the seventh inning. SFA's Kym Kling (1-5) pitched six innings of shutout ball, but hit the leadoff batter in the top of the seventh inning. Michelle McElyea then singled to give UTSA two on with nobody out.
Kristin Nolan then came on in relief of Kling, with two on and nobody out in the seventh. Nolan got a fly ball off the bat of Serena Ormsby to deep center field. Jaime Brown made an over-the-shoulder catch on the ball, but fell making the play. That allowed the runner at second to tag and score the only run in the game.
SFA could not mount a challenge in their half of the seventh and fell, 1-0. With the loss, SFA falls to 13-15 overall and 6-6 in SLC play.
UTSA's Angela Graham faced the Ladyjacks for the second straight game and did not allow a run, striking out seven, while giving up only two hits.
