NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Both the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will honor their past this Saturday in conjunction with a Southland Conference doubleheader against Southwest Texas in the Coliseum. Tip-off for the first game is set for 2:00 p.m.
The Ladyjacks will play the first game of the twin-bill, and at halftime one of the all-time greats in Ladyjack history will be honored. Rosie Walker-Montgomery will have her number 40 jersey retired at halftime of the women's game. Walker played for the Ladyjacks from 1978-1980, earning All-American honors both seasons. She still holds four Ladyjack records, including career scoring average (23.7 ppg), career field goal percentage (.660), and most points in a single season (912).
During her SFA career, Walker also represented the United States as a member of the 1979 Pan American Games team, and was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team. In June of this year, Walker-Montgomery will be inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tennessee.
At halftime of the men's game, the Lettermen's Association will honor former Lumberjack head coach Harry Miller. Miller coached the `Jacks for ten seasons, beginning with the 1978-79 campaign. During his ten year stay with SFA, Miller's teams won 170 games and posted five twenty-win seasons. The Lumberjacks also claimed three conference titles under Miller's direction. The `Jacks also earned a berth in the NIT tournament following the 1986-87 season, the only national post-season tournament appearance the `Jacks have made at the Division I level.
Coach Miller also picked up milestone win number 500 while coaching the Lumberjacks with a February 17, 1986 win over Nicholls State. Coach Miller was the 43rd coach to reach that level in this history of the NCAA.
Miller remains 60th on the all-time wins list in NCAA history with 534 career wins, and is 40th on the all-time wins list among Division I coaches.
Saturday also marks Lettermen's reunion day, with the Alumni Association hosting a reception in the T Room, on the concourse in the Coliseum, throughout the afternoon for all former Ladyjacks and Lumberjack lettermen.
