HOUSTON, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin State University indoor track and field team was represented at the University of Houston Runsport All-Comers meet by their pole vaulters. Senior Tom Swann (Ovilla, Texas) and juniors Adam Keul (Tyler, Texas) and Misty Ballard (Carlsbad, New Mexico) travelled to Houston to compete one more time before the Southland Conference Indoor Championship (February 16-17, Houston, Texas). Misty Ballard and Adam Keul had stunning performances as they both won their competition.
Ballard vaulted 4.05M (13-03.50) which was a new SFA school record. She set the best all-time Southland Conference vaulting record earlier in the season, but broke this record with her vault in Houston. She also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships held March 9-10, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Ballard has provisionally qualified on three different occasions this season. This vault was a career and seasonal best for Ballard.
Keul performed equally well, with a vault of 5.46M (17-11.00). This landed him his third NCAA provisional qualification of the indoor season. He also set a new SFA school record with this vault. Keul is now listed as the third best vaulter in Southland Conference history. In four of five meets this season, Keul has clinched a first place finish for the Lumberjacks. This was a career and seasonal best for Keul.
The SFA indoor track and field team will be back in action Friday-Saturday, February 16-17, in Houston, Texas at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
