Volleyball Wins 11th Straight With Sweep Of McNeese State

The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team extended their winning streak to 11 straight with Friday night's straight game shutout of McNeese State. With the win, SFA moves to 22-6 for the season, and is 16-3 in Southland Conference play. The loss drops McNeese State to 17-10 overall and 15-5 in SLC play.
The Ladyjacks came out on fire, jumping out to an early lead in game one before cruising to a 30-18 win in the opener. McNeese State rallied to make things tighter in game two, before the Ladyjacks dispatched McNeese State by a 30-23 score in the second game of the match.
Looking for the sweep, SFA had to rally from a small deficit in game three to tie the game at 23-23 before moving on to the 30-27 victory. Senior Kristy Rhodes led the Ladyjacks with 19 kills in the match on a hitting percentage of .389. Brittany Burton added nine kills and Angie Wood also added eight kills for SFA. Senior setter Marissa Dorcheus chalked up 20 assists in the match. The Ladyjacks hit .289 for the match
Kristin Richards led McNeese State with 11 kills on the night as the Cowgirls hit only .164 for the match.
The win sets up a pivotal match-up Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Coliseum as the Ladyjacks and Lamar Cardinals meet in the regular season finale. SFA can earn a share of the SLC regular season title with a win over the Cardinals Saturday night.
The win over McNeese State clinches second place in the conference standings and a bye in the first round of the SLC postseason tournament.
