Ladyjacks Place Three on All-SLC Team

NACOGDOCHES - Senior middle blocker Kristy Rhodes (Cypress, Texas), senior setter Marissa Dorcheus (Houston, Texas) and junior outside hitter Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) were named 2001 All-Southland Conference announced the league Friday. Rhodes was also named conference MVP.
Rhodes, the Ladyjacks lone first-team honoree, was the league's most dominant player throughout the 2001 season. Rhodes was tops in the league with a .359 attack percentage and second in the league with 4.39 kills per game. She also recorded five matches with at least 20 kills. She finished tops on the team and seventh in the Southland Conference with 0.45 service aces per game. She also finished the season tops on the team with 317 digs and third on the squad in assists (95) and blocks (82).
Dorcheus was a third-team selection. She set the stage for the Ladyjacks all season as she finished tops on the team with 1,233 assists. Her 12.99 assists per game placed her second in the SLC.
Wood also received a third-team honor for her accolades on the court. Wood finished the season fifth in the conference and second on the team with her 4.11 kills per game. Wood also recorded 50 total blocks, including 14 solo blocks to lead the Ladyjacks. She was the only Ladyjack to register double-figure block solos.
The Ladyjacks will play in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Championships against the winner of the McNeese State/Texas-San Antonio match. The match is slated to begin Saturday at 5:30 p.m., from the Montagne Center in Beaumont, Texas.
