Bridge City junior linebacker Jared Williams has been named the Southland Football League Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Lumberjacks' 26-14 win over McNeese State Saturday.
Williams filled in for the injured Reggie Williams at middle linebacker for the second straight week and recorded a game high 19-tackles, 12 unassisted. He also picked off a Slade Nagle pass early in the third quarter and returned it 25-yards for a touchdown to start the ball rolling for the 'Jacks.
J. Williams now leads the team in total tackles with 37 for the season.
The Lumberjacks host the undefeated Gamecocks of Jacksonville State this week in a 2:00 p.m. Homecoming match-up.
