The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team crushed Nicholls State Tuesday night, 3-0 (30-17, 30-16, 30-17), at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA improved its overall record to 11-4, and 5-1 in the Southland Conference.
The Ladyjacks dominated the match on the offensive side of the ball. Junior middle blocker Jennifer Wilson (Friendswood, Texas) recorded her best game this season with a 10-kill performance. She led the Ladyjacks with a .769 hitting percentage. Senior Kristy Rhodes (Cypress, Texas) recorded another double-figure kill match for SFA with her 14 kills on 22 attempts. Six Ladyjacks recorded an attack percentage above .300 against the Lady Colonels.
It wasn't just the SFA offensive attack that stifled Nicholls State. The Ladyjacks totaled 41 digs led by senior Joci Shaw's (Albuquerque, N.M.) match-high 11. Five Ladyjacks also recorded blocks, led by freshman Brittany Burton's (LIvingston, Texas) three total blocks.
"I'm obviously pleased with the way we played tonight," said SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "Our effort tonight allows me to relax a little more during a match. I think Nicholls State is a better team than what they showed tonight but I think we did a lot of things to take them out of their game. We were able to capitalize on some opportunities and it really kept them from opening up."
Humphreys now stands at 299 career victories. She will have her opportunity to reach career win No. 300 Friday night at McNeese State. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
