Nacogdoches - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team knocked off Northwestern State Friday night, 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-24), at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks improved to 13-6 overall and 7-3 in the Southland Conference.
SFA was in control of the match from the very beginning led by senior Kristy Rhodes' (Cypress, Texas) six kills. She finished the match with 20 kills (.472 attack percentage) and nine digs. Freshman Brittany Burton (Livingston, Texas) had a strong game for the Ladyjacks as she helped close out the match with her six kills in game three. She tallied 14 kills overall on 23 attacks with only two errors.
Defensively, senior Joci Shaw (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the way with a match-high 12 digs. Junior Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) recorded 11 kills but came up big with two solo blocks and one block assist.
"I was pleased with our performance tonight," said SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "I think the team was focused on coming out tonight and taking care of business. Tonight we played like we are capable of doing. We didn't worry about what Northwestern State was going to do, we just came out took care of our side of the court. We're now 7-3 in the Southland Conference. I'm not as happy with that record as I could be but we're in good shape. Now our focus is on winning our final 10 matches."
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday, Oct. 19, at Nicholls State. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., from Thibodeaux, La.
