Kirby Killingsworth has signed grant-in-aid papers with Stephen F. Austin announced first-year Ladyjack head basketball head coach Lee Ann Riley Wednesday.
Killingsworth, a 5-8 guard from Longview, Texas, originally signed with New Mexico out of high school. During her highly-touted prep career she scored more than 1,600 points and pulled down 444 rebounds, while leading the Lady Lobos to two regional playoffs. She also recorded 315 steals and dished out 299 assists on her way to being named Street & Smith Honorable Mention All-America. The first-team all-state player was named a Texas Association of Basketball Coaches top 50 player as a junior, averaging 21.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 2.8 assists per game. She listed among the TABC top 25 players as a senior, averaging 21.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.7 assists per contests.
Killingsworth is the Longview school record holder for three-point field goals in a game (nine), season (107) and career (234). She scored double-figures in 64 of her 67 games, including a 44-point outburst. She led the Lady Lobos to three district titles and helped continue a school streak of 15 consecutive district titles.
"We're ecstatic to have Kirby join our team," said first-year head coach Lee Ann Riley. "She is a local product who had tremendous success at the high school level and we want to keep the best East Texas kids right here. Her high school stats prove that she is a tremendous shooter and that is something we are definitely going to incorporate into our program."
The Ladyjacks kickoff the 2001-02 season against Florida International in the first round of the Women's Preseason National Invitational Tournament. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m.
