NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Lumberjack basketball guard Kevin Daniels will miss the rest of the season after suffering a back injury in mid-December. Daniels injured his back prior to the Lumberjacks December 20 non-conference game with Schreiner College, and has not played since the `Jacks December 9 game with UT-San Antonio.
Prior to his injury, Daniels was the `Jacks second leading scorer and had scored 17 and 21 points each in the last two games in which he appeared.
Daniels played seven games with the Lumberjacks during the 1998-99 season before returning to his native California, and played in seven games this season prior to his injury. He was averaging 11.1 points per game and shooting 47% from the field at the time of his injury. Daniels was also adding almost four rebounds a night.
"Losing Kevin is a big blow for us. Not only does it hurt us in terms of losing depth off our bench, but Kevin had shown in the games just prior to his injury that he was really starting to take off in this system. I really think that Kevin could have had a great conference season had he stayed healthy, but unfortunately, that's not the case. We'll miss Kevin both on and off the floor," said coach Danny Kaspar.
The `Jacks return to action Saturday night in Lake Charles as they take on the league's preseason favorite, McNeese State in a 7:30 tip.
