NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin State University Ladyjack basketball program announced today the release of its 2000-2001 schedule. This schedule includes a variety of teams from various conferences throughout the United States.
The Ladyjacks will open the season with two exhibition games and tournaments. The first will be against the Houston Jaguars followed by Kozachka-Zalk, a foreign team from the Ukraine. The tournament portion of the schedule includes the Conoco Classic and the 22nd Annual Rainbow Wahine Classic hosted by the University of Hawaii.
The Conoco Classic returns to Nacogdoches November 17-18 in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Southern Methodist University, Alcorn State, and Florida A&M will take part in this hometown tournament. At the Rainbow Wahine Classic the Ladyjacks will face various talent from the University of Hawaii, Arizona State, Arkansas, Michigan, North Carolina State, the University of California-Irvine and Northern Illinois.
To conclude the non-conference portion of the schedule, the Ladyjacks will host the University of Maine, the University of California at Santa Barbara and Prairie View A&M. They will also travel to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
Conference play will begin Thursday, December 7 against Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, Texas. The first conference game to be played in Nacogdoches will be Thursday, December 28 as the Ladyjacks face Nicholls State. There will be twenty regular season conference games played prior to the Southland Conference championship tournament March 6-10. A site is still being determined.
"This is one of the most ambitious schedules we have had here at SFA. The potential to play seven NCAA tournament teams in the preseason will provide us an opportunity to prove ourselves to the NCAA selection committee. Being saddled with 20 regular season Southland Conference games makes it imperative that we play as many tough opponents in November and December as possible. This schedule certainly has a load of heavy hitters. We look forward to the challenge" said Coach Royce Chadwick.
Tickets can be purchased at the William R. Johnson Coliseum on game day or by calling 468-JACK. There is no charge for exhibition games. Some game dates and times may change. Visit the Ladyjack's web page at: www.sfajacks.com. for updates.
