Phoenix Native Vies for National Team Appointment
HOUSTON -- Phoenix-native Rhonda Rajsich will vie for a spot on the U.S. National Team at the U.S. Racquetball Association's 33rd Ektelon U.S. National Singles Championships presented by Penn Racquet Sports in Houston, May 24-28. Rajsich will compete in the elite women's Open division, which qualifies the top-four finishers for the U.S. National Team.
In addition to her racquetball ability, Rajsich is also an all-star basketball player. After playing two years for Phoenix College, she transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University, where she aided the Ladyjacks in the winning the Southland Conference title and advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Last month, Rajsich was the bronze medalist in the top women's division at the World Intercollegiate Championships, only weeks after ending basketball season. She was a quarterfinalist at last year's national singles championships, and hopes to advance to the semifinals this year in order to earn an appointment to the U.S. National Team, whose selected members will compete at the World Championships in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, this August.
Rajsich will also compete in the women's 24-and-under division.
National titles will be awarded in more than 70 divisions at the Ektelon U.S. National Singles Championships. Divisions will be categorized by age (25-and-over, etc.), skill level (A, B, C or D), and both age and skill level (35-and-over C/D), in addition to the Open divisions.
