Coach Luna is entering his fourth season as the Ladyjacks head coach. He follows up a 3rd place finish in the inaugural Southland Conference Championship with leading a transition for the program into the evolving Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN).
A two time AVCA 30 Under 30 Award winner and active USA Beach coach, Luna previously head coached the U19 Women’s National Training Team and was selected as an assistant coach for the U17 Boys National Training Team as well. He currently serves as a National Scout in the USA Beach Volleyball Pipeline and most recently served as an Assistant Coach for the Women’s U16 Spring Training Series.
When picked to start SFA's inaugural beach volleyball program, Luna came to Nacogdoches following a three-year stint as the assistant beach & indoor volleyball coach at San Jose State University. With Luna on staff at SJSU, the Spartans captured the beach program’s first marquee victory in 2017 when they upended 18th-ranked California. During his tenure as the lead for the beach program, the Spartans found themselves receiving votes in the AVCA Top 20 Coaches Poll for the first time in program history.
While working as an offensive coordinator with the indoor team and responsible for middle blockers and setters, Luna’s accolades include helping prep two-time All-Mountain West middle blocker Nandyala Gama and All-Mountain West setter Breann Robinson in 2017. In 2018, Middle Blocker Thaliana Grajeda took home an All-Mountain West Honorable Mention choice.
In 2018 he was selected as the Assistant Coach for the Mountain West All-Star Team, finishing 2nd in the 2018 Global Challenge behind the Collegiate National Team.
Luna devotes much of his time to maintaining his coaching education. He has acquired his BCAP II Certification as well as been selected as a presenter at the AVCA National Coaching Convention. Also an active player, he regularly competes on all surfaces (beach, grass, indoor), and currently plays professionally on the AVP Grass Tour.
