Following a career at Yuba College in Marysville, Calif., that spanned two decades, Tomas Rodriguez joined SFA athletics as the director of football operations in 2019 and is entering his fourth season in that role.
In addition to his duties as the director of football operations, Rodriguez will also serve as SFA’s athletic equipment manager.
Prior to his appointment at SFA, Rodriguez served multiple roles at Yuba College in Marysville, California. Up until joining SFA’s staff in Nacogdoches, Rodriguez had been Yuba’s athletic equipment manager since 2004 and managed the athletic and physical education budgets for the department in addition to his equipment maintenance, transport and set-up duties.
Not only was Rodriguez Yuba’s athletic equipment manager, he worked his way up through the ranks of the program’s football coaching staff. From 1999-03, Rodriguez carried the title of defensive backs coach before getting promoted to the dual post of defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in January of 2004.
In January of 2014, Rodriguez became Yuba’s associate head coach and offensive coordinator - positions he held through the 2017 season. During his tenure at Yuba, Rodriguez oversaw the recruiting and development of nine All-California Defensive Team players and five more All-California Offensive Team honorees.
With Rodriguez on staff, Yuba laid claim to five conference titles, three division crowns and was tops in the CCCAA in total defense during the 2007 campaign. Three of Rodriguez’s players went on to claim Conference Defensive MVP honors while another earned the title of Offensive MVP in 2014. Rodriguez prepped the state’s leader in interceptions in 2007, 2008 and 2013 while coaching the state’s leader in catches in 2017. In all, Yuba earned seven bowl game invitations during his tenure.
A 2003 graduate of Cal State Chico with a degree in physical education, Rodriguez earned his graduate degree in sports science from the United States Sports Academy in 2013. He and his wife, Erica, have a son, Joaquin, and a daughter, Blaike.
