New program standards set in both 3000m events, women’s 800m
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – This time of year, it is best to approach the Stephen F. Austin indoor track & field record book with a pencil because week in and week out, what's considered the program's best all-time efforts are simply being topped with new standards set weekly. That was the case on Friday in Northwest Arkansas as both program 3000m marks and the women's 800m result were reset. Additionally, the Jacks produced a collective 14 top 10 finishes in Houston.
In Fayetteville, Ryan Binskin (4th) and Devon Judelson (8th) logged top ten showings in the men's 3000m final. On the women's side, Valentine Jemutai (4th) and Mercy Kipchumba (5th) finished inside the top five. Within those results are the fastest times ever ran by a Lumberjack male and female in the indoor event. Binskin's 8:07.77 and Jemutai's 9:31.59 are now new program standards. Kipchumba's time is just :00.24 back of the record. Pablo Lessari bettered his personal best effort in the 3000m with the program's tenth-best time of 8:21.39.
Evaline Chepkoech, in her first season at SFA, earned a fifth-place result in the women's 800m with a time of 2:07.9 which stands as the fastest time ever ran by an SFA female in the event.
