Wayland Named SLC Offensive Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin football's Clayton Wayland has been named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week following Week 9 action. Wayland delivered a career-high in receiving yards (125), a season-high in catches (6) and recorded his third career game with two receiving touchdowns in SFA's 37-6 victory over Houston Christian. Monday's honor is the first for Wayland in his career.

He hauled in an over-the-shoulder 35-yard catch from Gavin Rutherford in the front corner of the end zone to give SFA a two-possession lead late in the second quarter and then scored from 46 yards out with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Wayland, who is in his third season with the Lumberjacks, has recorded 464 receiving yards on 26 catches with five touchdowns this fall. He's 36 receiving yards away from a second-straight season with 500+ receiving yards and 21 catches shy of reaching 100 for his career.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school's sports information director. Voting for one's own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
