Year one under first-year head coach officially tips off November 3 in Nacogdoches
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin first-year head coach Matt Braeuer has announced the non-conference portion of his 2025-26 schedule marking the completion of his first slate as leader of the Lumberjacks' men's basketball program.
An October exhibition coupled with nine non-conference matchups joins a previously announced 22-game Southland Conference schedule to complete the 31-game regular season set up for the new look Lumberjacks who boast a roster that includes a dozen newcomers.
H-TOWN THROWDOWN
The 'Jacks jumpstart the season on October 25 in Houston in a Battle of the Piney Woods exhibition against Sam Houston State. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Delmar Stadium, a 5,000-seat multipurpose arena within the Houston Independent School District. Tickets for the matchup can be purchased here.

SFA will play host to five non-conference opponents inside William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Lumberjacks host Millsaps College (1st meeting) in the season opener on November 3 and will matchup with Arkansas State (3rd matchup, series even) on November 7. A week later, the 'Jacks are back in action against Abilene Christian (50th meeting, SFA has won 7 of last 9) on November 14. SFA will host Louisiana Monroe (53rd meeting, W, 68-60 last season) on December 7 and will close out the non-conference schedule with a December 21 meeting against Dallas (2nd meeting, W, 85-51 last season).
IN-STATE BATTLES
A pair of road games against in-state opponents can be found on the 'Jacks' non-conference schedule. SFA travels to Rice (20th meeting, first since '17) on November 11 and contends with UT Arlington (66th meeting, UTA leads 34-31) on November 29.
GOING BACK TO CALI, CALI
The 'Jacks head out west and will hoop in the state of California in non-conference fashion for the first time since the 2014-15 season when SFA beat Cal State Northridge. The Lumberjacks match up against Fresno State (1st meeting) on November 18 and will take on Pepperdine (2nd meeting, first since '93) on November 21.
TWICE AS NICE
The Southland Conference slate features 22 contests with each team playing all 11 opponents home and away, marking the largest number of regular season contests in Southland Conference men's basketball history. SFA's league slate begins December 3 at home against UTRGV and continues in Nacogdoches on December 17 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Road swings against East Texas A&M and Northwestern State close out the '25 portion of the schedule as 18 conference games will await the 'Jacks in the new year. SFA will host five-straight SLC games beginning January 26 in its second matchup against NSU through its second matchup with ETAMU on February 9. The action in the middle of that stretch includes contests with Southeastern Louisiana (Jan. 31), McNeese State (Feb. 2) and Lamar (Feb. 7). Before closing out its regular season with road tilts at Houston Christian and Incarnate Word, SFA will play seven of nine in Nacogdoches.
