Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks success from the regular season carried right over into the Southland Conference Tournament as they staved off a late rally from Nicholls State and pulled away late for a 77-65 win over the Colonels to punch their ticket to the Southland Conference Semifinals where they face off against the two seeded Lamar University Cardinals. Four different Ladyjacks scored in double figures to help SFA top the Cardinals, and the entire team came through in the clutch down the stretch as they shot 85.7 percent from the stripe to help SFA knock off the Colonels and advance to the Southland semifinals for the first time since 2021 when the Ladyjacks went on to eventually be crowned Southland Champions.
Cardinals at a Glance:
The Lamar University Cardinals will look to use their coveted bye to their advantage as they will play their first game of the tournament against SFA after earning the no. 2 seed in the Southland standings this season. Lamar ended their season on a burst of momentum as they won their final seven games of the season, capping off their seven-game win streak with a 71-54 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the season finale to lock down the second seed, as they look to claim their first win of the tournament.
Scouting Report-Ladyjacks:
Harmanie Dominguez led the scoring efforts for the Ladyjacks against the Colonels as she was lethal from beyond the arc, knocking down four triples in route to finishing with a team-high 17 points. Faith Blackstone stuffed the statsheet for SFA as she recorded a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double and made 10 free-throws on the day. Trinity Moore came through with big contributions on both ends of the court for SFA as she tallied 14 points, while blocking a team-high three shots on the defensive side of the ball. Key Roseby rounded out the top scorers for SFA as she was flawless from the free-throw line, going 6-6 from the charity stripe and finishing with 12 points against the Colonels.
Scouting Report-Cardinals:
Sabria Dean and Akasha Davis formed a perfect scoring pair on offense for Lamar this season as both averaged over 13 points/game. Dean led the team with 13.9 points/game, knocking down 39 triples, and averaged a healthy 33 minutes played per game. Meanwhile, Davis almost averaged a double-double this season for Lamar as she averaged 13.1 points/game, while pulling down a team-high 260 rebounds for an average of 9.0 boards/game for Lamar.
Series:
This historic Southland rivalry continues into the postseason as these two teams will see each other for the 82nd all-time meeting, with SFA leading the all-time series 63-18. The Ladyjacks have won seven of the last eight meetings over the Cardinals and won the most recent meeting in February when they exacted some revenge from an earlier home loss to Lamar and beat the Cardinals 72-66 in Beaumont.
