COMMERCE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks women's basketball team (20-5, 10-4) kick off their four-game road trip in Commerce as they square off with the host East Texas A&M University Lions (6-16, 3-10).
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks continue to keep the good times rolling as they extended their win streak to six games over the weekend with home wins over UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Those wins closed out a three-game homestand for the Ladyjacks and improved their home record to a dazzling 11-1 record, while improving their conference record to 10-4, which leaves them just a half-game back of Lamar for second place in the Southland. With all the winning over the weekend, the Ladyjacks reached 20 wins for the season, which continued the iconic winning tradition of Ladyjack Women's Basketball as it marked the ninth consecutive season SFA has won at least 20 games in a season. The Ladyjacks now carry the best offense in the Southland as they average 80.3 points/game, which ranks them 17th in the country in that category, on the road looking to improve their 6-4 away record and continue their surge in the Southland standings.
Lions at a Glance:
The East Texas A&M University Lions will be looking to keep their winning ways rolling as well as they are coming off a critical two-game road trip that saw the Lions post consecutive road wins over McNeese State and Nicholls to keep their playoff hopes alive as they moved into a tie for the eighth place in the Southland standings with McNeese State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Lions now return home looking to improve their 3-6 home record and continue their last season surge as they host both SFA and Lamar looking to extend their two-game winning streak.
Scouting Report-Ladyjacks:
The Ladyjacks offense was led by Trinity Moore, Faith Blackstone, and Harmanie Dominguez this past weekend against the Islanders and Vaqueros. Blackstone dropped her second 20-point game in her past three contests with a 22-point performance against the Islanders to close out the homestand. Meanwhile, Dominguez dropped a 20-point performance of her own as she exploded for 28 points against the Vaqueros while passing Marissa Banfield for fourth most three-pointers in a single season in SFA history. Trinity Moore continues to be a steady rock in the Ladyjacks lineup as she recorded her eighth straight game of double-digit points against the Islanders as she stuffed the stat sheet with the Ladyjacks third 20-point scoring effort of the weekend with a 20-point, 17-rebound double-double for her third double-double of the year.
Scouting Report-Lions:
Jordyn Newsome leads the Lions offensive attack as she averages 15.1 points/game good for best on the team and the third-best average in the Southland. Joining Newsome on the offensive attack for East Texas A&M is Cora Horvath who averages 11.4 points/contest and leads the team in steals with 27. Newsome and Horvath are not afraid to pull up from beyond the arc as they have combined for 86 three-pointers on the season as both rank in the top-10 in the Southland for three-point field goals. Alva Hedrich has started all 22 games for the Lions this season, while leading the team in rebounds with 158 boards on the year.
Series:
Thursday night's road matchup will feature the fifth all-time meeting between these two programs as SFA goes for the regular season sweep against East Texas A&M. The Ladyjacks lead the all-time series 4-0 and defeated the Lions in their most recent meeting just a few weeks ago as they defeated the Lions 92-65 at the Sawmill.
