'Jacks' Second Half Surge Casts Away Islanders in SLC Tilt

Patrick erupts for 20 in final 20 as Braeuer noted increase in toughness in second half
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Lateef Patrick erupted for 20 second-half points and Stephen F. Austin men's basketball turned a sluggish first half effort into a nine-point second half comeback over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to improve to 2-0 in Southland Conference play and 8-2 through the '25-26 campaign's first ten games of the season. SFA topped the Islanders 69-60, outscoring the visitors by 18 points in the second half, on Wednesday night inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Patrick went scoreless in the first half on four attempts from the floor, but came out after the intermission and delivered a 20-point effort on six made shots, including one from range, to go along with seven free throws as the first-year 'Jacks ability to get to the cup paid dividends for SFA in rebounding from a slow start through the opening 20.
The 'Jacks shot better than the Islanders in the first half, but TAMUCC attempted ten more shots highlighted by 11 offensive rebounds to just two for SFA. Additionally, the Islanders built its 34-25 halftime lead by managing a +6 effort in points off of turnovers as well as manufacturing a 9-0 run down through the six-minute mark of an opening half that featured four ties and two lead changes. The 'Jacks shot just four times from beyond-the-arc, making two, in the first half.
It was a different story in the second half, much to the delight of the Lumberjack faithful. SFA went +15 in points off of turnovers in the second half, while committing just four as a team. The 'Jacks opened on a 9-0 run out of the halftime break to even the contest at 34, while Texas A&M-CC would never manage to lead by more than four points before a pair of free throws by Narit Chotikavanic gave SFA a lead it would not relinquish. Moments later the former hit a three-ball to spur an 11-4 run over a 5-minute span which included another successful triple try from Chotikavanic as the 'Jacks led 58-47 with 5:40 to play.
SFA returns to action on Sunday, December 21 for a 1 p.m. tip against Dallas. It will serve as the final non-conference action of the season for the Lumberjacks as 20 SLC contests await following the Christmas holiday. Live coverage links are available at www.SFAjacks.com.
