SFA to host home playoff game for first time since 2010; awaits winner of No. 10 Abilene Christian-Lamar
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Twilight Ballroom of the Stephen F. Austin State University student center erupted with cheer just after the 11 a.m. hour as the Southland Conference champion Lumberjacks were announced as the No. 7 seed in the upcoming Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs. The appointment ensures a first-round bye and a second-round home game on December 6 in what will be a rematch regardless of the outcome as No. 10 seed Abilene Christian plays host to Lamar.
It will be the ninth FCS playoff appearance for the Lumberjacks, the program's first since 2021. SFA will play playoff football inside Homer Bryce Stadium for the first time since the 2010 FCS First Round, while the second-round matchup inside HBS will be a first non-opening round home playoff game since the Division I-AA Quarterfinals in 1989.
SFA enters the playoffs owners of the nation's third-longest win streak at 10 games and is coming off the program's fifth SLC title and first-ever perfect league record at 8-0. In addition to the familiar foes, the 'Jacks are joined in the top right quadrant of the bracket by No. 2 seed Montana State who awaits the Nov. 29 winner between No. 15 seed Youngstown State and Yale.
