First-year ‘Jack eyes collegiate XC’s biggest stage, strong finish to surging sophomore season
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin sophomore cross country runner Paul Kiprotich is set to lace up his shoes one more time this semester as the biggest stage in collegiate cross country awaits the Kenyan on Saturday morning in Columbia, Missouri. Kiprotich, who will don bib #813, makes his run for a national title amongst the 404-runner field with the firing of the 10:10 a.m. starting gun on the 10K Gans Creek Cross Country Course hosted by the University of Missouri. Live coverage links, including ESPN's broadcast of the championships, are available at www.SFAjacks.com.
A transfer from UNC-Ashville, Kiprotich's first season as a Lumberjack has been defined by a relentless effort to get back to top form after not being 100% healthy to start the '25 campaign.
An All-Region performer after his 8th place finish (29:45.1); the fastest of his collegiate career, at the South Central Regional Championship last weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Kiprotich posted two top ten efforts at smaller meets to start the year. He then registered a 40th place finish and a 20th place result, respectively at the Chile Pepper Festival and the Arturo Barrios Invite, before highly impressing in his last two runs.
Kiprotich finished second on the 8K course of the Southland Conference championship meet in a career-best 22:55.4 to garner All-SLC first team honors as the second runner to cross the tape. Two weeks later, Kiprotich logged the top 10 finish to punch his ticket to the national title meet.
