NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Basketball Team (12-2, 2-1) continues their four-game homestand as they host the visiting University of The Incarnate Word Cardinals (7-5, 2-1) in a Saturday afternoon matchup.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Ladyjacks carried over their success to end 2024 right into 2025 as they flipped into a new calendar year and continued their winning ways on Thursday against the Houston Christian Huskies as they dominated the Huskies by starting 2025 with an 82-35 win. The win marked the fifth straight win for the Ladyjacks while marking their fourth straight game they scored at least 80 points, while recording their second straight game holding their opponent to less than 40 points. The 'Jacks will look to continue their commanding play at home as they have posted a flawless 5-0 home record at the Sawmill so far this season, scoring at least 80 points in four of those five wins and winning by double-digit point margins in all five home wins.
Cardinals at a Glance:
The Incarnate Word Cardinals had their four-game win streak snapped in a 69-47 loss to Lamar on the road on Thursday evening, but still hold a 7-5 overall record and a 2-1 conference record this season. The Cardinals have scored at least 70 points in three of their last four games, while being equally dominating at home as they have recorded a 7-1 home record this season. Incarnate Word will close out a short two-game road trip on the road in Nacogdoches looking to record their first road win of the season.
Scouting Report:
The Ladyjacks boast the highest scoring offense in the Southland Conference as they average a healthy 82 points/game. The offensive attack is a balanced blend of scoring as four different Ladyjacks have started all 14 games for SFA while averaging over 11 points/game. Faith Blackstone leads the scoring effort with her 15.7 points/game average as she leads the Southland Conference in field goals made with 73. Avery VanSickle continues to be a prolific three-point shooter for the Ladyjacks as she has made 39 triples this year, while her 54.17 three-point percentage ranks her second in the nation. Ashlyn Traylor-Walker has been a kickstarter for SFA's offense as she dished out a team-high 59 assists, good for second most in the Southland, while Trinity Moore has been pesky as she leads the defensive effort with her team-leading 17 blocks while also contributing heavily offensively with her 11.4 points/game.
Jorja Elliott has been a do-it-all player for Incarnate Word this season as she leads the Cardinals offensive attack with her team-leading 10 points/game, has drained a team-high 18 triples, while also leading the team in assists with 29. Brynn Lusby has been solid from the charity stripe for Incarnate Word as she leads the team with 18 free-throws made, while Raimi McCrary has been an enforcer on defense as she leads the team in both rebounds with 72 and steals with 21.
Series:
Saturday afternoon's matchup will reengage these two Southland Conference foes as they will square off with each other for the first time in almost three years. SFA leads the all-time series 12-1, and won the most recent meeting between the two schools as they defeated the Cardinals 91-48 on their home court in 2021.
