
Cross-Country Heads to Arkansas for Chile Pepper Invitational

Nacogdoches, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's cross country teams head to the Chile Pepper Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas this Saturday, September 28th.
Meet Information
The men will be competing in the McDonell Memorial 8k starting at 10:30 A.M. The women will compete in the Harter's Habanero's 5k starting at 11:10 A.M. Both races will take place at the University of Arkansas Ag Ops course.
The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will compete against 25 other teams in each elite division.
The men have all five runners in action who scored in their win at the Rice Invitational. Junior Riley Elliott and junior Zephrin Darhan are expected to lead the group. This will be the men's first 8,000-meter race of the season. Freshman Elkana Kipruto will make his collegiate debut for the Lumberjacks this weekend. The Kenya native will be look to help the 'Jacks compete with the tough field expected to be at the meet.
"This is our biggest meet so far and so we're excited to see how we stack up against a pretty deep and talented field," said head coach Rob Hansen. "We will be integrating Elly Kipruto in the mix who is making his Lumberjacks debut. I am excited to see how he manages his first ever collegiate competition."
The women will be looking for another strong performance out of freshman Valentine Jemutai, as she won the UT-Tyler XC Opener and followed it up with a fourth-place finish at the Rice Invitational. Landry Perkin should also look to stay at the front of the pack.
Kennedy Swain will be making her Lumberjack debut as well in the meet.
"Our group of freshman ladies is still a bit short handed, but we're getting healthier and more fit by the week," said head coach Rob Hansen. "This will be our biggest test to date, so we'll be looking for them to manage their emotions on a bigger stage than they've seen thus far."
