
The Lumberjacks Men’s Golf 2023-2024 Season in Review

The 2023-2024 golf season for the Stephen F. Austin Men's Golf team saw them participate in 10 different tournaments throughout the season, traveling to tournaments in Texas, South Carolina, and Louisiana this season before concluding their season in Arizona at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships.
The Lumberjacks started their fall schedule in September at South Carolina as they traveled to Pawleys Island to participate in the Golfweek Fall Challenge where they finished the tournament in 11th place. The 'Jacks would then get a month off before getting back into action in October for their second tournament of the Fall when they traveled to Las Cruces, New Mexico to participate in the New Mexico State Herb Wimberly Invitational. The team had a strong performance, earning a fourth-place finish in the Invitational.
SFA would stay busy in October, closing out their Fall schedule by winning the LA Tour Intercollegiate. The Lumberjacks finished six strokes less than the second-place school as the team finished -13 under par and had a team total of 851 strokes through three rounds of play.
The Lumberjacks Spring slate got started with an early February tournament, traveling to Montgomery, Texas to participate in the Bentwater Intercollegiate. SFA placed fourth out of 13 teams. Junior Cameron Hubbard finished in third place at –3 under par, while Jaxon Griffith also grabbed a top-10 spot, finishing tied for eighth at +4 over par in the Bentwater Intercollegiate. The end of February saw SFA travel to New Orleans to play in the Gulf Coast Intercollegiate where the 'Jacks finished fifth as Matthew Hewitt and Cameron Hubbard were the top finishers for SFA, both tied for ninth place shooting +7 over par in the tournament.
In the beginning of March SFA traveled to Houston where they participated in the HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational. SFA finished ninth out of 15 teams. The end of March ended in Texas as they traveled to Kerrville, TX to participate in The Big Texan. SFA finished in 13th place.
The April schedule opened with the Lumberjacks traveling to Pawleys Island in South Carolina for a second time to participate in the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate. The Jacks' finished 16th at the tournament. The beginning of April remained a busy week for SFA as they traveled to Oberlin, Louisiana just five days later, to participate in the Koasati Pines Intercollegiate where the Lumberjacks performed extremely well as they grabbed a second-place finish. Jaxon Griffith was the top finisher for SFA as he finished tied for first at -8 under par and shot under par in every round of the tournament. Cameron Hubbard also finished in the top-five for SFA as he finished tied for third place at -6 under par.
The Lumberjacks wrapped up their regular season schedule at the North Texas Intercollegiate where SFA finished sixth before traveling to Payson, Arizona for the WAC Conference Championships where SFA finished 11th to conclude their 2023-2024 golf season.
Jaxon Griffith experienced a strong season of golfing for SFA as he won the Jacksonville College Invitational on September 27th, shooting -7 under par to take first place. Griffith followed that up in the spring by being named Co-WAC Men's Golfer of the Week on April 11th for his performance at the Koasati Pines Intercollegiate where he finished as co-champion by finishing -8 under par and shooting under par every round of the tournament.
