NACOGDOCHES, Texas. - The Stephen F. Austin Softball team (15-37, 8-15) dropped the final game of a three-game series against the Grand Canyon University Lopes (42-10, 20-3) in a 2-0 loss.
The final home game of the season for the Lumberjacks offered another nail-biting pitching duel as Aydenne Brown and Emily Darwin exchanged blows in the circle for their schools throughout the entire game. The SFA defense made sure to show out on senior day as in the top of the second, Chloe Reneau would climb an imaginary ladder at shortstop and make a sensational leaping snag to rob the Lopes of a hit. Following a scoreless first two innings by both sides, the Lopes would strike first with a run in the top of the third to take an early 1-0 lead.. Both schools exchanged scoreless fourth and fifth innings before GCU would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. That score would stand until the end of the game as GCU would claim a 2-0 series finale win to close out the 'Jacks last home game of the season.
After the game, the Lumberjacks and their fans honored their eight graduating seniors as Madison Nguyen, Emily Land, Aydenne Brown, Brittany Coe, Lexi Benson, Alex Dubose, Mallory Webb, and Sydney Blakeman were all honored postgame for their final home game in an SFA jersey as well as for the roles they have each played in the Lumberjacks softball program's success over their respective careers at SFA.
Chloe Reneau (2-3), Ellie Vance (2-3), and Emily Land (2-2, HBP) formed a terrific hitting trio in SFA's final home game of the season as all three recorded two hits each to make up SFA's six hits on the afternoon. Aydenne Brown drew the starting nod in the circle for SFA on her senior day and pitched another vintage game as she pitched seven full innings allowing just one earned run on the day while striking out three hitters on the day. Alex Dubose continues to add to her fantastic defensive season at first base as she led the team with eight putouts on the day, while Hope Lusk and Chloe Reneau remained busy as well on the left side of the SFA infield as they combined for seven assists.
