Team White Wins 35-32 in 2nd Annual Graylan Spring Game

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks held their second annual Graylan Spring Game. The 2024 Graylan Spring game served as SFA's 15th and final spring practice. Dee Winston was the guest coach for Team Purple and Dustin Bailey coached Team White.
Dalton McElyea (white) and Gavin Rutherford (purple) were the quarterbacks through both halves of the spring game. Both teams found their offensive rythym through the first half as both quarterbacks recorded passing touchdowns.
Returning starter Kylon Harris picked up where he left off last season as he brought in two receiving touchdowns for Dustin Bailey and the White Team. Dee Winston's defense stepped up in the first half as Bruce Harmon tipped the ball into Montego Johnson's hands for an interception. Tyjuan Atkins, Jaylen Jenkins, Anthony Williams, and Qualan Jones also scored touchdowns in the first half.
Halftime featured an honoring for both the family of Graylan and Cally Belcher. Both defenses held their ground and kept the offenses scorless through the third quarter.
Colby Carthel decided to let his team have a little fun in the fourth quarter as he allowed Team White to kick and recover their own onside kick with 3:20 left. Dalton McElyea drove down the field until he found Hunter Vivaldi for what would be the game winning touchdown. The Purple Team was unable to respond with their own touchdown resulting in a 35-32 win for Dustin Bailey and the White Team.
SFA's season will open up at home against North American on August 31st and will be followed by a showdown on the road against North Texas.
