‘Jacks Fall to Huskies in Midweek

The Lumberjacks got the scoring started in the first inning led off by a Cole Hill single into center field. Colton Griffin then followed suit with a bunt single to put two men on board with no outs in the top of the first inning. Peyton Parker then grounded out advancing Hill to third and Griffin to second. Tom Biggs came to the plate and picked up his first hit of the day with a single to center field and scored Cole Hill from third, 1-0. Nolan Brown then doubled to the right center gap scoring Colton Griffin and advancing Biggs to third, 2-0. Cody Fleischer then hit a sacrifice fly to right field and scored Tom Biggs, 3-0. After a half inning the Lumberjacks led the Huskies. Elian Balmaceda got the start on the mound for the Lumberjacks and worked around trouble in his two innings pitched to hold HCU scoreless through two complete innings.
The Huskies finally broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring three runs and tying the game at 3. HCU then scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a commanding 8-3 lead. After scoring three runs in the top of the third inning the Lumberjacks were held scoreless for the rest of the contest and HCU won by a final score of 8-3.
Jonathan Valdez (1-3) took the win on the mound for the Huskies and Will Larson (0-2) look the loss for the Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action this weekend for a Western Athletic Conference Series in Edinburg, Texas as they take on the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros. The series is set to start, Friday April 26th with first pitch of game one at 6:00 P.M. CST. All games are set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
