
SFA Takes on ACU in First Round of WAC Tournament

LAS Vegas, Nevada- The Lumberjacks travel to Orleans Arena to begin their chase for their first WAC Tournament title. Stephen F. Austin will begin tournament play against the Abilene Christian Wildcats on March 13 at 10:30 p.m. CT.
A Look at the Series:
Stephen F. Austin currently holds a 26-15 record over Abilene Christian. The most recent matchup resulted in a 63-62 win for the Wildcats. However, the Lumberjacks won the first game of the season, 79-74 in overtime. SFA has won three of last four matchups against ACU with two of the last three matchups going into overtime.
A Look at SFA:
Stephen F. Austin enters the tournament with back-to-back wins and will look to carry their momentum into WAC Vegas. The 'Jacks recently defeated Southern Utah 87-60 and Utah Tech 84-71 to end the regular season with back-to-back wins. Latrell Jossell and Matt Hayman are the Lumberjack's leading scorers as they average 12.5 and 9.8 points per game respectively.
The Western Athletic Conference announced their final WAC men's basketball weekly awards of the season this week. Stephen F. Austin's Nana Antwi-Boasiako received the honors after putting up a career high 30-point performance in SFA's 84-71 win over the Utah Tech Trailblazers.
In his coaching career, Keller has participated in 31 NCAA tournament games, and been a part of 21 tournament wins: One Final Four, three Elite 8's, and seven Sweet 16 games. He has 17 conference championships and led the 'Jacks to a 2021 Regular Season WAC Championship. Kyle Keller has also coached 21 All-Conference players.
Latrell Jossell is the Lumberjack's leading scorer with his 12.5 points per game. Jossell is shooting 39.6% from the field and 35.7% from the three-point line. He is coming off a 20-point game against the Utah Tech Trailblazers. He is ranked first in the conference (29th NCAA) with his 88.4% free throw percentage. He also recently hit the 100-steal mark and is 12 points away from scoring 1000 career points.

The Abilene Christian Wildcats enter the tournament with a 15-16 overall record and a 10-10 record in Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play. ACU has won four of their last five, losing their last game 74-67 to the Utah Valley Wolverines.
In their 74-67 loss to the Wolverines, ACU had three scorers finish in double figures. Ali Abdou Dibba led the scoring with a game high 17 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field. Airion Simmons (16) and Hunter Jack Madden (10) also finished with double-digit scoring.
Ali Abdou Dibba leads the Wildcats's in scoring with his 15.5 points per game. Airion Simmons (13.1) and Hunter Jack Madden (12.3) also average double-digit scoring for ACU. The Wildcats are averaging 73.0 points per game on 43.2% shooting from the field. Ali Abdou Dibba is also Abilene Christian's leading defender with 1.4 steals per game.

The winner of the Utah Valley-CBU game will take on Seattle U at 6 p.m. PT (8:00 p.m. CT) and the winner of the SFA-ACU contest will match up with UT Arlington at 8:30 p.m. PT (10:30 p.m. CT) in quarterfinal action on March 14.
All WAC Tournament games will be viewable on ESPN+. However, the winner of quarterfinal number two will advance to face No. 2 seed Tarleton State at 8:30 p.m. PT (10:30 p.m. CT) on ESPNU on March 15. The 2024 Hercules Tires Men's Basketball Tournament championship game will air live on ESPN2 at 8:30 p.m. PT (10:30 p.m. CT) on March 16.
