Lumberjacks Drop Series Finale Against Islanders

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- Stephen F. Austin (1-7, 0-0) played their series finale against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-2, 0-0) Sunday morning looking to get back in the win column. The Islanders held their ground against the 'Jacks and swept the series by a score of 3-2 in the final game.
TAMUCC scored the first run of the game in the second inning off of an RBI double to center field. However, the 'Jacks would come roaring back in the top of the fifth with Mallory Webb and Ellie Vance each hitting singles and then Brittany Coe walked to load the bases. Amiah Galcatcher hit the third single of the fifth which drove in Webb to keep the bases loaded and tie the game up at one. Lexi Benson walked in the second run for the 'Jacks to give them a 2-1 lead. The Islanders tied the game back up in the bottom of the fifth and took the lead back in the sixth as they scored their third and final run.
Vance and Galcatcher led the way with two hits each, followed by Kelby Robbins, Coe, and Webb who each recorded one. Galcatcher and Benson each drove in a run for the 'Jacks. Alexis Telford started in the circle for SFA and pitched 6.0 innings, allowed nine hits, three runs, and struck out eight batters which is the most she has recorded in a single game this season.
SFA will be back in action at home on Tuesday, February 20th beginning at 3:30 with a doubleheader against Sam Houston.
