Mavericks Sweep Season Series Against Ladyjacks

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin (15-9, 9-4) hosted UT-Arlington (11-12, 7-6) for the second time this season looking to split the season series, but the Mavs had other plans as they won 84-74.
Kurstyn Harden got the 'Jacks on the board first with a layup 30 seconds into the game. UTA pulled ahead and held a seven-point lead with 6:16 left, but SFA tied the game up at 18 off back-to-back three-pointers from Kyla Deck and Avery VanSickle. The Ladyjacks finished the first quarter on a 5-0 run, 23-18. The Mavs started the second quarter on an 11-0 run and held a six-point lead with 5:30 left in the first half. The 'Jacks cut the lead down to one with 2:41 left, but UTA went on a 7-0 run to end the first half and took an eight-point lead into the locker room, 39-31. The Mavs came out firing on all cylinders as they extended their lead to 14 early on in the third off back-to-back three-pointers. UTA held a double-digit lead for a majority of the third, but SFA cut it down to eight after Tyler McCliment-Call knocked down both of her free throws, 61-53. Deck got the scoring started in the fourth quarter with a three-pointer that cut the Mavs lead to six. However, UTA did not let their foot off the gas as they regained their double-digit lead with 3:11 left in the game. Deck hit back-to-back threes with under a minute left to cut the lead to eight, but UTA held off the Ladyjacks final push.
Four Ladyjacks finished with double-digit points. Kurstyn Harden led the way with her sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Kyla Deck finished with 17 points, including five three-pointers, followed by Tyler McCliment-Call with 15 and Avery Vansickle with 11. Zoe Nelson and McCliment-Call each pulled down seven rebounds, followed by Destini Lombard with five. Mele Finau led the team with five assists, followed by McCliment-Call and Lombard with three each.
SFA will head to Abiliene for their next game on Saturday, February 13th against the Wildcats at 1:00 p.m.
