NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks basketball team (5-6, 0-2) returns home to the Sawmill for a Friday evening matchup against the Texas Wesleyan University Rams (8-4, 4-4).
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks will look to get back in the win column on Friday night and are in prime position to do so as they return home to the Sawmill where they have posted a 4-1 home record this season. SFA put up a valiant effort in their most recent game as they traveled to Eugene, Oregon to take on the 12th ranked Oregon Ducks, but eventually fell 79-61 to the Ducks. The Lumberjacks had a strong second half in the Oregon game, shooting 62.5 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the charity stripe. SFA will look to build off the momentum from the second half against Oregon into their home matchup against the Rams as they look to record their fifth home win of the season.
Rams at a Glance:
The Texas Wesleyan University Rams open a short two-game road trip Friday in Nacogdoches looking for their second straight win. The Rams, winners of three of their last four, have played in plenty of nail-biting games this season as they have played in seven games decided by five or fewer points and three of their last four games have been decided by three points or less. The Rams have been just as solid away from home as they have been at home as they have compiled a 4-1 road record this year and will look to record their fifth road win at the Sawmill.
Scouting Report-SFA:
Matt Hayman leads the Lumberjack offense and is coming off a game and team-high 17 points against the Ducks with four rebounds and four steals. He leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.7 points per game for the 'Jacks. Keon Thompson has made his presence felt as he starts to build significant playing time for SFA appearing in the last three games and averaging 27 minutes per game while scoring in double figures in two of those three games. Nana Antwi-Boasiako rounds out the Lumberjack offense averaging 10.6 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 82 (7.5 rpg).
Scouting Report-Texas Wesleyan:
Trey Sinegal helps lead a balanced Rams offensive attack averaging a team-high 16.5 points per game thanks to making a team-leading 28 three-pointers. Sinegal is one of four Rams to average double-digit points per game as Vegas Evans, Richard Amaefule, and Montez Young Jr. all average over 12 points a game, while Kristopher O'Neal II rounds out the offense with his 25 assists.
Series:
Friday evening's clash will feature the 36th all-time meeting between these two schools with SFA leading the series 23-12. The Lumberjacks have won the last eight games between the two teams.
