
Three Ladyjacks Score Double Digits as SFA Records First Conference Win

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (8-2, 1-1 SLC) headed down to the island for a conference matchup against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (5-4, 0-1 SLC).
The Ladyjacks jumped out to a 6-2 lead thanks to baskets from Trinity Moore, Faith Blackstone and Ashlyn Traylor-Walker. Corpus took a slim 9-8 lead with 2:58 left in the first quarter. However, Key Roseby would hit the first three of the game for the Ladyjacks and tie the game up at 11 with 1:16 left. The Islanders made a layup with 31 seconds left and took a 13-11 lead going into the break.
TAMUCC extended their lead to 15-11 with the first bucket of the second quarter. An 8-0 run from the 'Jacks capped off by a layup from Avery VanSickle, gave the 'Jacks a 19-15 lead. Corpus cut the lead down to one with 3:25 left, but a jumper from Blackstone put the 'Jacks back up three, 23-20. Roseby hit her second three of the game with 33 seconds left in the first half to give SFA a 28-21 lead heading into the locker room.
Corpus scored the first two points out of the break, but SFA came roaring back with an 11-0 run that included threes from Harmanie Dominguez, Blackstone and VanSickle as the 'Jacks took a commanding 39-27 lead with 6:28 left in the third. The Islanders cut the deficit down to single digits, 39-31, but a three-point play from Traylor-Walker brought the lead back up to 11, 42-31. Roseby continued her dominance from beyond the arc as she drained her third three of the game with 3:33 left in the third, 45-31. Corpus came back with an 8-0 spurt to cut the lead down to six, 45-39. A three from VanSickle in the final moments of the third gave SFA a 48-39 lead heading into the final ten minutes.
VanSickle quickly for the scoring started for SFA in fourth with a layup, 50-39. Corpus would not go down without a fight though as they went on an 8-0 run to bring them within three, 51-48 with 5:45 left in the game. SFA would respond with a VanSickle jumper and three-pointer to extend their lead to 56-48 with 3:38 left. Both teams would trade baskets the rest of the game but free throws from Moore, Blackstone, and VanSickle would ice the game for SFA who won 66-59.
