
Four Ladyjacks Score Double Digits as SFA Starts 7-0 For the First Time Since 2011-12

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (7-0, 0-0 SLC) finished up the North Florida MTE against Coppin State (4-4, 0-0 MEAC) Saturday afternoon.
Ashlyn Traylor-Walker got the scoring started for the 'Jacks with a jumper followed up by a layup from Cha Gardner, 4-0. Later the Eagles tied the game up at six before Gardner hit a three and Trinity Moore made a layup to give the 'Jacks an 11-6 lead with 6:16 left in the first quarter. Both teams would trade baskets the rest of the quarter, but a jumper from Moore and two free throws from Traylor-Walker gave SFA a 23-15 lead heading into the first quarter break.
The second quarter was tightly contested but the Eagles made two free throws to cut the lead down to five, 25-20. Gardner quickly nipped that in the bud with another three-pointer to extend the SFA lead to eight, 28-20. Coppin State would not go down without a fight as they went on an 8-0 run to tie the game up at 28. Both teams traded blows the rest of the quarter, but the Eagles scored a layup with six seconds left in the half and took a 37-36 lead into the locker room.
Both teams traded jumpers to begin the third quarter, but SFA was able to retake the lead after two free throws from Moore and a three from Key Roseby, 43-41. The Ladyjacks went on a 7-0 spurt to take a 50-43 lead with 2:37 left in the third. The Eagles cut the lead down to two with 1:14 left, but SFA made three free throws to maintain a 53-48 lead heading into the final quarter.
SFA did not let their foot off the gas in the fourth as they went on another 7-0 run to take a 62-50 lead with 7:13 left in the game. The Eagles and 'Jacks continued to trade baskets until SFA went on another 7-0 spurt to take a commanding 76-59 lead with 1:55 left. The Ladyjacks would not be denied their seventh win in a row and their best start since 2011-12 as they finished the game on a 5-0 run to secure an 81-60 victory.
